The Summer CSA Season,
For the summer season we offer 12 weeks of vegetables. We are also offering 1 week of melons this year that is optional. Without the melon option the cost for the 12 week summer season is $360. With the melon option the cost is $390. Please see below for information about the melon option and how it works.
The vegetables featured for summer season are as follows: Pickling Cucumbers, Yellow Squash, Red Bell Peppers, Fresh Cut Basil, Zucchini Squash, Slicing Cucumber, Okra, Butternut Squash, Tomatoes, Burpless Cucumbers, Eggplants, Orange Bell Peppers, Yellow Bell Peppers, Jalapeno Peppers, Tatuma Squash, Sweet Italian Peppers, Yardlong Beans, Shallots, and Onions.

Organic Cucumbers
We grow three varieties including a pickling variety thats crunchy and can be eaten raw. We also grow a slicing variety thats longer. We also grow a burpless variety that are over a foot long. We pick the cucumbers when they are young and sweet. You can expect to receive sweet and juicy cucumbers in the first 6 to 8 weeks of the summer season.

Organic Yellow Squash
We grow two varieties including a straight neck and an old fashioned crook neck. We pick them when they are small and tender. You can expect to receive yellow squash in the first 6 to 8 weeks of the summer season.

Organic Sweet Bell Peppers
Our Bell Peppers come in all sorts of colors including Red, Yellow and Orange. We also grow a sweet Italian pepper that is favored by many of our customers. You can expect to receive delicious sweet peppers in the last 6 to 8 weeks of the summer season.

Organic Sweet Basil
We grow a large leaf sweet Basil thats great for any recipe. You can expect to receive some bunches of Basil for a few weeks during the summer season.

Organic Tiger Zucchini

Organic Gadzukes Zucchini
We grow two varieties of Zucchini during the summer. You can expect to receive Zucchini during the first 6 to 8 weeks of the summer season.

Organic Okra
We grow an outstanding spineless Okra that we pick young by hand ensuring tenderness. You can expect to receive Okra during the last 4 to 6 weeks of the summer season.

Organic Butternut Squash
We raise an old fashioned Butternut variety with the sweetest deep orange flesh around. You can expect to receive Butternut squash for a few drops towards the end of the summer season.

Organic Tomatoes
We grow a medium firm delicious Tomato that we save our own seed from each year. You can expect to receive some Tomatoes for 3 to 6 weeks at the beginning of the summer season.

Organic Eggplant
We grow the large deep purple variety of Eggplant. You can expect to receive some Eggplants throughout the summer season as they start of produce.

Organic Anaheims
We grow a variety of hot peppers including Jalepenos, Poblanos and Anaheim. You can expect to receive a mix of hot peppers weekly once the summer season gets underway. We do not ever include a large amount of any one type, but we like to give what is available every week to spice up your cooking.

Organic Tatuma Squash
Tatuma squash has a nice balance in flavor between a yellow squash and a zucchini. This is the squash that is very popular in Mexican cuisine. This squash does not mind the hot texas months so it will begin to produce as the summer squash varieties diminish.

Organic Yardlong Beans
Yardlong Beans have a flavor similar to a pea, but you can snap and cook them any way you would a green bean. You do not shell them. They come in long lengths, but we snap them while they are still tender. You can expect to receive 3 to 6 weeks of Yardlong beans during the summer season.

Organic Shallots and Onions
During ths summer season you will receive some weeks of the french cooking shallot that is unique to our farm. These are the same shallots that we pick as green Shallots during the winter season, but they are dried and can be peeled and used like any onion. We also grow a super sweet and mild yellow onion. You can expect to receive some shallots or onions almost every week during the summer season.
The Melon Option

Organic Cantaloupe

Organic Canary and Honeydew Melon
We are offering the Melons as an option this year for those members interested. The melon option is the cost of one more week added onto the 12 week summer season. Adding this option to your membership will give you an extra share of melons during the summer season that will include two cantaloupe, a white fleshed canary melon and a uniquely flavored honeydew melon. All three melons together make for a delicious refreshing treat in the middle of our hot Texas summers. When the melons are ready we bring them to you within a day of harvest and because of this, the melon option may be delivered at a time different than your normal weekly pickup. We will give you a day or two notice that you will have an additional pickup that week. The melon option will not take the place of your weekly vegetable pickup. You will nee to still pickup up your weekly vegetable share on your asigned day. This really is a special option we offer to everyone who is interested. You just can't beat these three melons. All three together usually weigh from 10 to 15 pounds. They ripen towards the end of July to the beginning of August.
The Winter CSA Season,
The winter CSA season is 12 weeks long. The goal behind our season is to provide you with 5 to 8 different items a week. You can expect to find in your bag almost every week a type of lettuce, spinach, shallots and broccoli. Most weeks you will find cauliflower, swiss chard and German spinach or kale. You will also receive Pac Choi and Fennel mixed in throughout the winter season. The crops will vary and some will struggle while others will strive. Every week is different with some weeks being more than others, but we work hard to meet our goal to provide you with a variety of delicious organic vegetables from our farm. Often the winter season will provide you with two to three bags of produce.

Organic Red Butterhead Lettuce
Red Butterheads are compact, smaller and are a taste preference for many people. The varieties we grow form a small tight compact head on the inside which gives you that crunch you need in so many salads. You can expect from 3 to 4 of these during the winter season.

Organic French Green Shallots
This variety of Shallot is unique to Scott Arbor and was passed down by the Woehlers who grew on this land before us. You can expect to see 1 to 2 bunches of these shallots in their green state every week during the winter season. These shallots can be added to almost any dish to add a layer of flavor that is signature to being a member of Scott Arbor.

Organic Winter Spinach
We grow a delicious winter spinach with large curled leaves. In todays supermarkets the baby spinach leaves are most desired, but wait until you receive week after week of our spinach. These full mature leaves will surprise you with their flavor. You can expect to receive this spinach almost every week of the winter season.

Organic Rainbow Elephant Chard
Our swiss chard grows to enormous sizes that are double the size of what you will find in supermarkets. These varieties strive in our sandy soil and will each have a distinct flavor depending on its color. You can expect to receive 6 weeks of this swiss chard during the winter season.

Organic Romaine Lettuce
Its really hard to match a beautiful head of Romaine lettuce. Our varieties are sweet with a nice crunchy heart on the inside. You can expect to receive 3 to 4 heads of Romaine during the winter season.

Organic Wieding Spinach
This is another unique crop to Scott Arbor. It was given to us by Tabitha's and Joshua's elementary school principal, Mr. Wieding. This vegetable was brought over from Germany when his family migrated here and its been kept in the family ever since. We are lucky enough to be able to grow this delicious unusual vegetable for you. The flavor is very similar to spinach but it resembles a swiss chard. You can expect to receive 4 to 6 weeks of this special crop during the winter season.

Organic Broccoli
Broccoli is a big favorite with everyone. We grow tender varieties with medium to large heads, but you can expect tons of side shoots as well. This is one crop that can be devastated by our Texas heat, but we plant a large amount of plants to bring off a nice crop every year. You can expect to receive 8 to 12 weeks of broccoli during the winter season.

Organic Cauliflower
We grow massive heads of Cauliflower every year. You will also receive the leaves surrounding the cauliflower which are more flavorful than the actual head. The leaves are a unique offering and one you can only get by buying local. You can expect to receive 2 to 4 weeks of this cauliflower during the winter season.

Organic Cheddar Cauliflower
With great excitement, we now include crops of Cheddar Cauliflower in our winter CSA! The flavor is richer and the heads are even larger than the traditional white varieties. You can expect to receive 2 to 4 Cheddar Cauliflower during the winter season.

Organic Leaf Lettuce
This is Joshua's favorite lettuce, Its large leaves are sweet, crunchy and perfect for any salad. They are also great for wraps. You can expect to receive 3 to 4 weeks of this delicious lettuce throughout the winter season.

Organic Pac Choi
Our varieties of Pac Choi form small to medium heads and are great as an addition to any stir fry. You can expect to receive a few weeks of Pac Choi during the winter season.

Organic Kale
This is a new crop for our farm. We are experimenting with different varieties trying to find a variety that is flavorful and works in our soil. You can expect to receive 4 to 6 weeks of kale during the winter season.

Organic Fennel
Fennel can offer a layer of flavor to so many dishes. We grow a traditional variety that you can expect to see later weeks of the winter CSA.
